An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Geologist/Geologist – South to lead the provision of Geological Services and expert advice to operational areas within the South Region, including management of company mineral reserves and resources, implementation of national and regional mineral strategies, and quarry operational design and mining engineering, ensuring the maximisation of performance and financial return of the company’s significant land and mineral assets. Application of geological policies, standards and best practice across the Region to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and maintain the company’s licence to operate.
The location is negotiable to an extent in that we would be happy for the successful candidate to be based out of our Colchester, Pashanger or Stancombe offices.
Accountabilities Manage the area mineral assets to execute Tarmac’s National and Regional Strategic aims. Provide specialist operational mining engineering advice including production of Quarry Development Plans to ensure quarries are developed in a manner that is operationally cost effective, safe and maximises the performance and financial return of the company’s land and mineral assets. Provide specialist advice and expertise to the business on water and hydrogeology, ensuring that the company’s licence to operate is maintained and minimise risks of related prosecution. Key contributor as Competent Person in the calculation and reporting of the annual mineral reserve and resources statements in accordance with Tarmac's safety standards.

International reporting policies and protocols. Represent Geology at Area and Regional Management meetings. Continuously review and identify Geological business risks/improvements and implementing necessary best practice geological techniques. Provide specialist geological advice and expertise to assessment of business acquisitions and disposals, including input into due diligence reviews. Taking a lead from the Regional Geological manager to manage the use of and procurement of Geotechnical Specialists to ensure legal and safety compliance with UK legislative requirements and ensure that all quarries are worked and maintained in a safe manner in accordance with Tarmac’s safety standards. Outputs Advise on and produce safe and effective operational mining designs that maximise financial return Production of Quarry Development Plans. Minimise risk of prosecution of the company for safe operational design. Production of Water Management Plans Minimise risk of prosecution of the company for water pollution. Support the National and Regional Development Strategies. Deliver on Safety Standards relating to the stability of all Quarries. Produce Mineral Reserve and Resource Reports to feed into National and Regional Reporting. Develop strong relationships across all BU's and Functional elements to allow correct decision process.
The role is a key part of the Land and Natural Resources Function and the Area Operational Management Teams. The individual will be involved in development and implementation of National and Regional mineral strategies to deliver the over arching business objectives. Other key parts of the role are in operational design and mining engineering, ensuring safety of the company’s operations and also playing a critical role in the management of water on site. The role has a focus on the future to ensure that long term stability and continuity of Tarmac’s mineral asset base is maintained but have the systems and strategy in place to deliver today’s immediate need of maximising financial return from the mineral reserve and resource portfolio whilst assessing business development opportunities. Qualified to degree level in a cognate geological degree and Chartered Status through the relevant Geological Professional Bodies. Consideration will be given to those applicants who are not yet Chartered but who can demonstrate relevant experience.
